Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made the above statement at a reception in Ha Noi on July 20 for U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen who is on a working visit to Viet Nam.

The host leader welcomed Yellen's working visit on the occasion of the 10th founding anniversary of the comprehensive partnership between Viet Nam and the U.S.

The two sides were delighted to witness the big leaps in the bilateral ties, notably the two-way trade surpassed US$123 billion last year, making the U.S. the second biggest trade partner and one of the most important export markets of Viet Nam's goods.

Pham appreciated the U.S. side’s recognition of the State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV)’s successful implementation of the action plan on exchange rate and information transparency, contributing to reinforcing cooperation between the two countries as well as between the SBV and the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

He spoke highly of the objective and relevant assessment of the U.S. Department of the Treasury on Viet Nam's monetary policy and exchange rate management in the recent past, and briefed the U.S. official on Viet Nam’s socio-economic situation, and major financial and monetary policy orientations.

He urged the SBV and the U.S. Department of the Treasury to maintain dialogues and close contacts to handle emerging issues in the time ahead given the evolving global situation.

In reply, the U.S Treasury Secretary Yellen expressed her impressions of Viet Nam’s development, affirming that Viet Nam is an increasingly important partner of the U.S. and plays a key role in the country’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

The U.S., said Ms. Yellen, expects to cooperate with Viet Nam in semiconductor production and supply chain diversification and support the country in development and economic reform.

Yelle said she supports and wishes for further dialogues with Viet Nam's central bank on monetary policy, exchange rate and other macro matters, as well as more cooperation activities between the two countries.

The U.S. highly values and backs Viet Nam’s efforts and solutions in energy transition, the implementation of the National Power Development Plan VIII, and acceleration of the realization of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) through the mobilization of international financial sources.
